High Definition What?

This camera takes stunning High Definition photos.

Stunning HD photos. OK, I believe you. Wait. What? What the heck is a HD photo?

Well, to help myself find the answer, I turned to the Wikipedia article on High-definition video:

High-definition (HD) video generally refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, most commonly at display resolutions of 1280×720 (720p) or 1920×1080 (1080i or 1080p).

Great! That means this camera can take pictures up to 1920×1080-ish. A bit more than 2 megapixels. But this camera takes 10.1 megapixel images!

So what is a HD photo? Any photo from a digital camera made after 2002. Or a photo from a good cameraphone. Yes, that’s right. My cameraphone takes “HD” photos.

Maybe someone can explain this to me?
